Melbourne based electrical contractor Frank Spiteri has been in the electrical contracting industry for over 35 years. His current business, AF Electrical and Smokeshield, has been servicing Melbourne and surrounds for over eight years.

After developing a website, Frank and the team decided to launch a blog that customers could subscribe to, to stay up-to-date on everything AF Electrical. “After 35 years in the business, we’ve seen a lot of growth and a lot of changes,” said Frank. “As time has progressed, electronic media has been identified as being the way to go, moving forward.” Frank decided early on to build a website for the business, using digital media as part of AF Electrical’s overall communication strategy. In recent months, the team have been investigating blogging and the ways in which it can help with search engine optimisation (SEO). “Building a website is relatively easy, you can find people to do that for a flat rate. It’s getting the website optimised that’s difficult,” said Frank. “Getting it optimised for mobile, and for search engines; that’s where it becomes pricey, and where it starts to get complicated.” Frank looked for a simple platform that would enable users to view all updates from AF Electrical. With the current website already using the WordPress platform, it was as simple as connecting accounts via several plugins. “Our website currently uses WordPress at its base, with each menu item a new page. We have created a blog using the posts function,” he said. “Now, when we create a new post – which we try to do at least once a month – it automatically shares across Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, all of our work accounts, as well as my personal accounts.” “Analytics record every like, share, re-tweet or comment, and all of these hits are connected back to our website, which obviously helps with our SEO.” Frank believes the blog keeps AF Electrical top-of-mind for subscribers. “They might not need our services every day, week or month, but when they do, they’ll see our blog post and contact us because they know the name AF Electrical,” said Frank. “It’s a little bit about being in people’s faces, a bit of brand recognition for our followers.” “It’s also a great communication tool for if we have a special offer, or in the case of sharing urgent information.” Find out more about AF Electrical and Smokeshield via their website or connect with them on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn
